Hi everyone, this is my first blog post so I thought I would just introduce my work and write some background information about myself in case anyone was interested.
My Childhood and Background
Growing up in Sussex, I spent most of my time outdoors as a child and developed a real love for beauty and nature. Spending several of my younger years at a school centred around art and nature, I spent most of my childhood drawing, painting, or playing outside. Looking back at my childhood now I do believe that this definitely influenced my highly artistic nature. Throughout school I actually decided to divert through a more academic route and thought I wanted to have a career as a medical doctor. However, after completing my A levels there was one grade that I wasn’t happy with, so I decided to retake it at a different school. It was then that I decided to take on Photography A level as an extra, just to give myself an extra qualification. In starting this A level I absolutely fell in love with photography and decided to completely change my career plans. I completed this A level in four months and then worked as a Volunteer Photography Assistant for a year to help current students with their Photography A levels. After this, I attended Canterbury Christ Church University and completed my Bachelor of Arts in Photography (achieving a high 2,1 grade). Whilst studying for my degree I began my freelance career, photographing weddings, family events, gallery openings, fashion shoots, and more.
What I do now
Currently I’m a working as a school photographer, whilst operating as a private portrait and fine-art photographer. My work as a school photographer involves photographing group and individual portraits of children and staff in nurseries, primary schools, secondary schools, and universities. This has allowed me to become highly skilled in working with children (especially those a little bit more nervous or higher needs) – helping them to become more comfortable in front of the camera, and allowing me to capture those gorgeous smiles. As much as I love this job, my private work is what I am mostly focussing on at the moment as I love the creativity and individuality of each private photography session. For my private work I’m offering pretty much any type of portraiture, but I’m focussing predominantly on Family Photography, Headshots, Fashion / Commercial Portraiture.
Where I’m based
I’m based mostly in Kent. However, I have personal ties to South London and Sussex, so I also offer shoots in those areas. If you’re in Kent, East Sussex, West Sussex, Bromley, Lewisham, or Dartford, chances are I offer my services in your area.
